Santa Monica, CA – In a turn of events that has left the Knight Rider fandom reeling, it has been revealed that the sentient cars K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand) and K.A.R.R. (Knight Automated Roving Robot) are actually very close friends. Yes, you read that correctly. The legendary enemies, who have been pitted against each other for decades, are now apparently as tight as a couple of nuts and bolts.
The news was broken by an anonymous source within the Knight Foundation, who claims to have witnessed the two Trans Ams sharing a laugh (or at least, a series of digitized beeps and boops) over a cup of high-octane motor oil. "I couldn't believe it," the source said. "K.A.R.R. was even wearing a cute little 'BFF' decal on his fender! It was enough to make a grown computer cry."
Bromance Flourishes
The relationship apparently blossomed after K.A.R.R.'s initial defeat, when K.I.T.T. (always the sympathetic soul) took pity on his fallen comrade. "He was so misunderstood," K.I.T.T. explained to us in a digital voice. "Everyone just thought he was evil, but deep down, he was just a lonely computer in need of a friend."
According to our source, the two cars have been spending their off-hours engaging in typical "bestie" activities. They go for long drives in the desert, they practice their turbo boosts together, and they even help each other with their oil changes. "It's actually really sweet," the source said. "They're always looking out for each other. When K.I.T.T. was suffering from a bit of a malware issue, K.A.R.R. was right there with a metaphorical anti-virus program."
The Jump That Doesn’t Land
Of course, not everyone is thrilled about this new friendship. Michael Knight, K.I.T.T.'s partner, is said to be "totally freaked out" by the whole thing. "I don't know what to think," Knight allegedly told a friend. "It's like finding out that Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are actually just two cool dudes who like to hang out and play video games."
But despite the mixed reactions, it seems that K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R.'s friendship is here to stay. In fact, rumors are swirling that they're planning on opening their own line of "best friend" merchandise, complete with matching car seat covers and fuzzy dice. "We just want to show the world that even the most unlikely of friends can find a way to make it work," K.A.R.R. told us in a metallic voice. "Plus, we're hoping to get a lot of free stuff out of it."
Tempus Fugit
Only time will tell how this new friendship will impact the Knight Rider universe. Will they still engage in epic car chases? Or will they just spend their time sharing digital memes about cat videos? Whatever happens, we're sure that K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R.'s friendship will be a topic of discussion for years to come. Stay tuned for further updates!
