Oakridge, CA — Attendees at Saturday’s local "Cars & Coffee" were left stunned when a pristine 1967 Mercury Cougar pulled into the parking lot, aggressively revving its vintage 289 V8 and hunting down early-model Ford Mustangs half its age.
Preying on the Inexperienced
Witnesses report the metallic-green classic bypassed older, age-appropriate Gran Torinos and went straight for a group of wide-eyed 2018 Mustang GTs parked near the entrance. The Cougar reportedly idling dangerously close, flashing its sequential taillights in a predatory display of dominance that left the younger pony cars visibly shaking on their stock suspension.
"It was wild," said 20-year-old Mustang owner Tyler Vance. "I was just checking my tire pressure when this '67 rolled up, purring like a lioness and showing off its chrome trim. Before I knew it, it had backed right into my spot, flexing its classic dual exhausts. My 5.0 felt completely outmatched by the sheer confidence."
A Dangerous Driveway Dynamic
The Cougar’s owner, 58-year-old Gary Henderson, admitted he can barely control the vehicle once it gets a whiff of fresh tire rubber and modern touchscreen dashboards.
"She doesn't care for cars built in her own era anymore," Henderson said, wiping a smudge off the fiberglass hood scoop. "She thinks those classic 1960s muscle cars are too slow and stuck in their ways. She wants the high-revving energy of an S550 Mustang, and frankly, these young coupes don't know how to handle a real big-block legend."
By the end of the morning, the Cougar was spotted leaving the lot with a bright orange 2021 EcoBoost trailing closely behind it, lured in by the unmistakable scent of race fuel and vintage leather.
