**Greenville, SC** — Tucked away in the bottom drawer of an oil-stained Craftsman toolbox, resting beneath a tangle of zip ties and a half-empty roll of duct tape, sits a 13/16-inch vintage spark plug extension. It has a heavy, cold-forged steel body, a patina earned over five decades, and a deep, burning resentment toward the modern household.

### **Seriously?**

"I’m a precision instrument of automotive liberation," said the tool, which hasn't been removed from its drawer since a mid-90s tune-up on a Ford Pinto. "Yet last Tuesday, I was dragged out into the daylight solely to tap on a stubborn jar of dill pickles. A jar. Do you know what that does to a tool’s self-esteem?"

Manufactured in 1974, the socket extension spent its golden years performing critical maintenance on classic V8 engines, delivering exact torque with satisfying mechanical feedback. Today, however, it finds itself routinely misidentified and degraded by its current owner, 32-year-old home-renovation enthusiast Mark Miller.

"I think it’s some kind of pipe fitting," Miller remarked while using the tool’s handle to wedge open a stubborn paint can lid. "Or maybe a weird tent peg? Either way, it’s got great leverage. I use it to prop open the garage door when it gets humid."

### **The Metal Meets the Extension**

The extension’s frustration reached a boiling point last weekend during a routine furniture assembly.

"He walked right past a perfectly good set of Allen keys, grabbed *me*, and tried to jam my hex head into a particle-board bookshelf," the socket recalled, visibly shivering at the memory. "I don’t fit flat-pack Swedish furniture. I fit a 1978 Chevy Impala. There is a difference. A massive, historical difference."

### **Hopium and a Brighter Future**

Despite the disrespect, the extension remains hopeful for a triumphant return to purpose. It reports taking comfort in whispering encouraging words to a nearby set of rusty feeler gauges, who have been convinced for six years that they are specialized cheese slicers.

"One day, a real project will come along," the wrench said, settling back into the dark recess of the toolbox. "A classic motorcycle. A lawnmower that won't start. Something with actual threads. Until then, I suppose I'll just sit here and pray nobody tries to use me as a hammer."

At press time, Miller was seen eyeing the vintage extension to see if it could be used to scrape ice off his windshield.
