**Norfolk, VA** — While the USS *Gerald R. Ford* commands the high seas and F/A-18 Super Hornets slice through the clouds, the true backbone of the United States Navy's logistical backbone took a moment this morning to beam with pride. Standing tall in the motor pool parking lot, a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500—clad in faded navy blue with matching rust accents—officially marked Navy Day, October 27th, by turning over on the first try.

### **Built Navy Tough, Maintained Navy Barely**

First commissioned into service during the Bush administration, the legendary half-ton pickup has outlasted four base commanders, three paint refresh proposals, and five distinct generations of sailors who swore they’d "fix that squeal in the belt next weekend."

"People talk about aircraft carriers, but have you ever seen a carrier haul 400 pounds of wet sandbags, three broken chairs, and an unidentifiable metal bracket across base at 15 miles per hour?" asked Petty Officer 2nd Class Nate Sample, wiping a mixture of sea salt and power steering fluid off his hands. "She might leak a little transmission oil, but that’s just her way of marking her territory."

### **A Decorated Service History**

Over its 19-year career, the Silverado has built an enviable record of operational readiness:

- **Naval Artillery Resistance:** Unscathed after surviving 14 years of sea spray and a mysterious dent from a dropped wrench in 2011.
- **Fuel Efficiency:** Retaining an impressive 8 miles per gallon, provided the tailgate remains tied shut with a bungee cord.
- **Tactical Acoustics:** Emitting a high-pitched belt screech that alerts the entire pier of its arrival five minutes before it rounds the corner.

### **Anchored to the Pier, Bound for Glory**

Despite rumors that the truck might finally be retired to make room for an electric fleet vehicle, base leadership confirmed the 2007 Chevy is going nowhere anytime soon. The budget for a replacement was quietly reallocated to buy more coffee filters for the chief’s mess and 500 extra yards of flight line.

"She’s got 340,000 miles, the check engine light has been lit so long the bulb burned out, and the A/C only blows warm air like a comforting hug from Mom," said Base Logistics Chief Donald Hayes. "In other words, she's peak naval engineering. Happy Navy Day to any sailor, past and present."
