I am a 1974 Dodge D100 pickup. I boast a cast-iron engine, manual steering that builds real character, and a dashboard made of unyielding, sun-baked vinyl. For nearly five decades, the name "Dodge" was stamped proudly across my tailgate. So imagine my utter disbelief when a shiny 2019 "Ram 1500" pulled into the driveway, boasting heated leather seats, a giant touchscreen, and not a single Dodge badge to be found.

****That fancy sparkle-truck isn’t a Dodge, and my carburetor knows it.**

### **The Identity Crisis in the Driveway**

This pretender claims we belong to the same family tree. It tries to convince me that the corporate suit-and-ties simply "separated the brands" back in 2009\. What a load of synthetic motor oil. A real truck is built with grease and grit, not Bluetooth connectivity and parallel-parking assistance. When I turn my key, the whole block hears a glorious, sputtering roar. When this imposter starts up, it sounds like a quiet electric toothbrush. It even lowers itself automatically for easier entry. In my day, if you couldn't climb into the cab, you simply weren't tall enough to drive.

### **The Verdict from the Garage**

The owner calls it a "modern marvel," but I know an undercover luxury sedan when I see one. You can put a brawny Ram head on the grille, but without the Dodge DNA running through its fuel lines, it’s just a gloriously oversized golf cart with a bed liner. Call me old-fashioned, but until that pretender leaks a little transmission fluid on the pavement to mark its territory, it will never be a true brother of mine.
